Reader-submitted: Yesterday on Cedar Bridge Avenue, and only by the grace of [G-d] — I managed to avert my car from getting struck by a car coming out of a parking lot.
To say that it looked like the car aimed straight at me is an understatement. While my car was not damaged, I was shaken up.
I pulled over to the side to collect myself, and a very nice Orthodox gentleman also pulled over and offered me assistance which I felt I did not need so I turned him down.
I want to get a message out to him thanking him for this mitzvah — and telling him how much it meant to have a stranger offer comfort and help. If you can help me do that, I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Lois Rogers

Thanks Lois for this public positive acknowledgment.
Usualy people only post letters when they want to complain about a bad experience.
It’s refreshing to get some positive letters, and illustrate that the majority of people are good caring people, it is the minority who always get noticed.
Dear Lois
Presenting the Lakewood Community & living in the community for over 30 years, i can honestly tell you. We have many orgs. & people who are always there to offer a helping hand & free assistance.
1)there is a org. for free roadside assistance called Chaveirim, should your car ever break down & be in need of any kind of assistance.
2)there is a security service that drives around the community 24/7 checking that no robberies or bad stuff are being done while people are at work or late at night. they are called “Shomrim” LCSW (Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch)
and many other people that are always there to assist you for the next time you pass through the town of Lakewood
I must agree that I was in an accident that was not my fault and there to I pulled over to the side of the road and an orthodox man came over and said are u ok do you need help. Thank god I and my children were ok but he waited in the vincity until my husband came just In case I would need his assistance. How thoughtful and caring!!
Ditto on 1 and 2!!!! And I’m so happy that you are alivery n well to tell the tale!!:))))

I was in the emergency room last summer with my daughter and was hot and dehydrated waiting for our turn. An orthodox fellow came over to us with 2 cold bottles of water and offered to get me supper (my daughter was in too much pain to eat). Those who follow the Bible are good people!
How do we contact LCSW & Chaveirim?
I’ve seen numerous times the lakewood Hatzolah EMS go above and beyond the call of duty helping people no matter if they’re jewish or not. They are caring and respectful of all people. The lakewood Jewish community as a whole is a wonderful place to live. It’s a pleasure helping them when they need our assistance. (Like on Saturdays and Jewish holidays). Let’s stop the hate and build the love. I a proud lakewood we
