Reader-submitted: Jackson and my grill

In light of the current negative media coverage of hostility in Jackson, I would like to share a story to portray what I believe is the majority of kind good-hearted Jackson residents.

My parents live in Brooklyn, NY and were here visiting in Jackson for a few days. Their perception of Jackson is mostly from the media, which unfortunately hasn’t been that great recently. One day during their visit, they went to Home Depot in Howell and purchased a large assembled gas grill. While standing outside attempting every possible way to get the grill into their car, a large pickup truck driven by a non-Jewish woman stopped them and asked them where they were trying to transport this grill. At first my parents were hesitant but she kept persisting that it was really no big deal and would be glad to help. She jumped out, opened the bed of the truck and personally loaded the grill. She then followed my parents for about 15 min back to our house and unloaded the grill for them there. She did this all with a smile and said “This is what Jackson residents do for each other.”

If this doesn’t show the true colors of our wonderful neighbors, then what does??

Let’s not let a few rotten apples smear the name of our wonderful town.

A Proud Jewish Jackson Resident

  1. I agree. As a current resident of Jackson. Most neighbors are extremely nice and friendly. The unfriendlies are just a fraction, and doesn’t reflect on the general neighborhood.

  2. That’s nice story and not surprising.
My neighbor buys my kids gift for their birthdays and we take over treats for the holidays. And for the most part the people of Jackson are wonderful people.

  3. Gut tracht un mentsh lacht!

I know these people who had their grill transported. They are such special people, they are the reason I moved to Jackson. It’s impossible to pass by them and not offer them a favor. They are shining examples for all of humanity. I am so glad they were assisted with their grill.

(Hope I get invited to the next bbq?)

    Go Jackson Go!!!

  4. Yup !
Most people in Jackson are decent upstanding people . Unfortunately we only hear
The few haters , who make lots of noise .

    Dear Jackson residents ,
Let’s not judge each other by what the few, making all the noise are saying. I believe we can both benefit from a mutual respect.

  5. I don’t feel that way. I am on face book a lot and see the constant anti semetic comments on the Jackson page. It is brutal. And it’s not the same people commenting. It’s many people. They don’t like the Jews and do not like that we are living there. I would love to think that the Jews are welcomed there. But we are not. Just log on to Facebook and see what they are saying.

  6. Wow!! Reb shaq! Thanks for all that you do for our shtut!! Together with mr benzi Inzelbuch your avoidas hakoidesh is outbstanding!!! Keep it up !! We are rooting for you!!
