Dear TLS, I’m not sure what your guidelines are regarding publishing letters, but I figured I’d take a shot at it.
This morning I felt as I was taken back 15 years in time. I walked into GPS in Excel park looking for a washer for a pipe under my sink. I am not a plumber, but figured I can handle this one myself. I was ready for a nasty look as in “we don’t have time for you amateurs wasting our time”, but figured I’ll bite my tongue and try as best as I can to get what I need so as to save on calling a plumber. Instead of what I was expecting, I got a very pleasant good morning from the man behind the counter (he was actually in middle of doing something else when I walked in, but immediately walked to the counter). He very respectfully asked me what I was looking for and took his time to look at my pipe and my pictures. He then went and got me the washer. When I asked him how much it was, he said “don’t worry, it’s just a little washer. Have a good Shabbos.”
I know some of you would be thinking this is basics…but unfortunately this is not the norm. I many times feel the attitude of local stores are that they are doing me a favor by servicing me. So this was definitely a breath of fresh air, and I wanted to publicly say thank you.
M.F,
Lakewood.
(TLS welcomes your letters by submitting them to [email protected])
These reader submitted letters are getting more and more pathetic by the day.
TLS please read them before posting and think twice if it’s interesting to your readers or not. YWN does not ever have stupid letters like these, please!
YWN is a global news site that focuses on the Jewish world and current events. TLS is geared and focused on Lakewood, which is why you would find a beautiful story about the happenings of Lakewood printed here and not something like Ivanka Trump And Chelsea Clinton Defend Malia Obama for instance!!
You seem to really be in a bad mood. You aren’t serious, I hope.
If you think you represent all the readers of TLS, you most definitely do not.
Nice story to wake up to.
This is actually a very nice story. I love hearing about the good side of people. I find it very heartwarming.
However, as far as your Reader Submitted Letter though, if you are looking for a lot of comments, you need to write about something negative, controversial or dumb! I’m hoping that people will actually take notice of this nice side of human nature this time…
Amen!
Huh?
Thanks for posting that, what a nice article
These are the type of letters i do like to see. Who wants negativity all the time. Part of why we go to TLS instead of mainstream.
Am I missing something? This letter seems to be incomplete…
This is a great story. And it is complete. And the letter writer is 100% right : GPS is a great store. This is also a useful story, because now you know, if its a simple fix, you need not spend $100 on a plumber, you can goto GPS, buy the part & do it urself. Thnx TLS for printing this story. GPS RoXX !!
Wow customer service became newsworthy
This is so refreshing to read about this. This is a great letter. After seeing clips of the insane Black friday rush, its great to hear some stores have real person to person service and dont stoop to crazy gimmicks to make a sale. Go, GPS !! Hatzlocha Rabbah.
I agree, GPS is a great store! I sometimes go there to buy a furnace filter which could cost less than $2, and I get the same customer service as if I was buying a new boiler. They really are very friendly and nice people. I had two kitchen sinks that were malfunctioning (which I did not buy in GPS) and Ken spent a long time trying to find me a part to fix it, even though the sink didn’t even have a manufacturers name on it. Only after spending a long time trying to find me a part to fix it, did he sell me new sinks.
Yes, good customer service is newsworthy these days!
People helping each other instead of putting them down is newsworthy. Pass it on.
Hold a door open for someone, stop and let someone go in front of you, smile and say hello to someone you don’t know, then notice the effect it has on you and others.
Let’s get back to what we learned as children.
Peace!
