There’s one Republican that New Jersey’s GOP brass does not want to see winning office this fall. State Republican leaders are trying to get 3rd District Assembly candidate Lee Lucas to exit the race. They take issue with him because a September 2006 police report quoted him using a racial slur during a dispute with his neighbors. Lucas admits using the slur and says it’s not wrong to say in certain contexts. He has also been criticized for proposing drastic cuts in poverty and school programs and saying poor people have “too many children.” Lucas says he won’t give up the place he won on the ballot. Assembly Republican leader Alex DeCroce says Lucas won’t get any campaign support from the party. AP
