The Lakewood Career Firefighters, FMBA Local 80 would like you to keep Purim fun, safe and exciting by taking some fire prevention precautions.
Fireworks
The sale, use, distribution or possession of fireworks or pyrotechnics by any person in New Jersey is illegal. Each year tragic accidents occur from playing with firecrackers, cap guns and aerosol cans. Besides for the dangerous explosion caused by firecrackers, caps and aerosol cans, they can lead to sparks and cause clothing or costumes to catch on fire.
Safety Tips
Purchase costumes that are made of flame retardant material.
Aerosol spray cans are dangerous and can cause injury if sprayed anywhere on the face.
Cap guns and explosive devices are dangerous – Don’t allow children to use them.
Masks can cause overheating if worn while playing outdoors, and they can also inhibit vision, making them dangerous to wear when crossing the street. If you are wearing a mask, make sure the eye holes are large enough so you can see out.
Carry a flashlight or glow stick for lighting as part of your costume so you can be seen at night.
Parents, teachers and other role models should warn children against playing with matches, lighters, fireworks and firecrackers; and should keep children away from fires and other heat sources.
Plan and discuss your fire escape plans with everyone.
Have a designated meeting place outside in the event of an emergency evacuation.
Do not block or cover fire exits, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Keep decorations away from open flames and heat sources, including light bulbs, and heaters.
In the event of a fire, call the Lakewood Fire Department by dialing 9-1-1 immediately!

Why was my comment removed
A good safety tip is follow the rules of no drinking and driving. Also the legal age for drinking is 21!! If drinking has to be then have someone else drive. Think of other people if you get behind the wheel drunk.
