Public Works Employee Robert Tobias Dies After Losing Battle to Cancer

Department of Public Works employee Robert Tobias died this morning after losing a battle to cancer, officials confirm to TLS. Tobias, also known as ‘Cardboard Bob’, was employed as a driver in the Recycling Department since 1997, officials say.

“Cardboard Bob was a very hard worker,” says Mayor Albert Akerman. “We need more like him.”

Deputy Mayor Steven Langert says Cardboard Bob will be missed.

“Cardboard Bob was a wonderful person and great employee,” says Deputy Mayor Langert. “It’s a big loss for Lakewood.”

“It’s a tragedy,” says DPW Liaison Township Committeeman Ray Coles. “He was a dedicated employee for a long time. Our thoughts go out to his family and co-workers.”

He was 57, and he began working with the DPW on 5/7/1997.  TLS-464.
