As the Fall season ushers sweater weather into Lakewood and the leaves explode in a cacophony of colors before falling to the ground, it is time to reiterate one very important message: don’t park your car on piles of dead leaves.
In the past few years, multiple cars in Lakewood have gone up in flames after their owners parked them on leaves, which are extremely flammable due to their dryness. All it takes is for a spark or the heat from the car’s underside to ignite a single leaf and the rest of the pile could quickly explode into flames, consuming the car in a matter of minutes and placing its occupants in serious danger.
When there are piles of leaves on the side of the road, stay away. Finding another parking spot may take up more of your time, but not as much time as dealing with the insurance company would take.

Catalytic converters under the engine. Don’t park on dry grass either. Even if you turn off the engine, it stays hot long enough to start a fire.
Another PSA Please don’t use up all the spots on the block for a month put the leaves put out when the pickup is scheduled – not a month before. If you recently got a pickup, chances are they won’t be coming back for another month. Also please don’t spread out the leaves across your entire property – try to keep the piles as small as possible and in spots where cars can’t anyways park..
Sorry, I will put those leaves out for pick up across the front of my property the same way my family has been doing it for close to 70 years now. I will not have huge piles into the street that will make it impossible for two cars to pass side by side or risk a child riding a bicycle getting hit just so someone can have a parking spot. Maybe you should ask why anyone would need to park in front of someone else’s home if the planning board allotted enough parking spots for each house, school and business in this town. Also I will put them out whenever I get a good day and the time to do it since you never know what may come up that will prevent you from doing it in time for the pick up schedule.
There is no proof that this is true. My friend parked on a pile of leaves and nothing happened. And a fire broke out in a house with no leaves in it.
It is nothing but a power grab by xyz.
Don’t listen
(for those who need it explained, this is sarcasm or satire)
I agree with #1 why can’t the planning board make the new homes that are being built have longer and wider driveways so they can fit tenants cars and homeowner cars in their own driveways instead of parking in the road. The same for schools and places of worship. cars are being parked on all roads on both sides making it very hard to see around them making it very unsafe to see around them in all directions not to mention you can barely get down some of the roads with the cars being parked on both sides.
If you put Hydrochloroquine, Zinc and Vitamin C into your gas tank it prevents leaf fires.
