All MVC facilities, including Licensing and Vehicle Centers, driver testing sites, and inspection stations, will be closed in recognition of the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 12, 2020.

Celebrated by Italian immigrants in the US since 1792, Columbus Day commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas.

Having become a federal holiday in 1937, Columbus Day is now celebrated annually on the second Monday of October, and prompts the closure of government offices.

Progressive activists have argued in recent years that Columbus Day should be discontinued, saying that Columbus was no hero and in fact hurt millions of people with his actions.
