A budget reconciliation bill advanced by the U.S. House of Representatives Agriculture Committee would shift $78 million in administrative costs for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) onto New Jersey’s counties, according to the NJ Department of Human Services.
Currently, the federal government reimburses counties for 50% of SNAP administrative costs. The proposed legislation would reduce that to 25%, meaning counties would need to shoulder 75% of these expenses.
In 2024, New Jersey counties received $156 million in SNAP administrative reimbursements. Under the new proposal, the shortfall in federal support would amount to an estimated $78 million based on 2024 expenditures.
Camden ($8.2 million), Essex ($10.2 million), and Union ($8.7 million) counties would face the highest additional costs. Ocean County would lose an estimated $4.56 million.
Approximately 827,200 New Jersey residents, or 9% of the state population receive SNAP benefits.
There are some members of the Republican party that seem to think that these cuts aren’t drastic enough. They are arguing that they cuts to SNAP and Medicaid should be deeper.

When you get rid of the fraud, the numbers will cover those that are actually in need.

To those who still believe that Republicans care about services for the poor, this is a glaring wake up call.
They don’t believe in sharing wealth. That’s too Marxist for them. So they’ll cut food stamps and Medicaid, because why should they (the selfish rich people) have to support the world?
And they’ll also take away USAID food and medicine from the poorest people across the globe, because they don’t believe in chessed, unlike the decades of previous generosity from the American people.
If Americans can’t accept the idea of lowering their wealth a bit to be supportive of their poor brethren, that’s Sodom-like, at least it’s heading towards it.
It’s indicative of the selfish (America FIRST) priorities this administration has.
This is the price we have to pay to make America great again.

How is not being able to put food on the table great!? Watching people starve just so the rich can live in their big homes. Ride in their fancy cars. Is considered making America great? Then how do you sleep at night?
