PHOTOS & FULL VIDEO [UPDATED 9:25 PM] This evening, a number of Police Officers and Chaveirim members were the recipients of an award for their outstanding service. The awards presented by Chief Lawson to the officers were to recognize the outstanding performance and service to the department and to the community for going above and beyond their call of duty as an officer. That duty, sometimes meant putting their own lives at risk, in order to save the lives of another citizen.
Chaveirim was also recognized this evening for their continued service to the community during all types of weather, and any time of day or night. The Chief made special mention of Chaveirim’s assistance during a recent blackout where Chaveirim assisted the police by manning high-traffic intersections.
Also this evening, the Chief recognized the officers who were recently promoted.
Another civilian receiving an award, was Moshe Lankry of Pizza Plus, who the Chief thanked for sponsoring pizza for the Police Youth Camp as well as for the Night Out Against Crime events.
The Chief also announced the retirement of Deputy Chief Charles Smith – a 33 year veteran of the force – who will be retiring this Monday.
Captain Michael Mooney, who recently retired, was also given an award for his approximately 30 years of dedication to the force. TLS.
Chuck,
Best of luck in future, Thanks for the many years of dedicated service that you and your family provided to the town. I remember the old days on Division Street were a different type of court was held LOL
Chucky Smith to retire?! What a shame he is a true cops cop! The guys on the force love him. He is a passionate and devoted man who was likely the next chief by all accounts. He is also a very smart and has street instincts. I remember talking to him after he returned from Israel a few years back, his passion and support for the Jewish nation was so imprresive. Enjoy Dep. Chief and thank you for everything.
Congratulations to Officers Karl Must and Ralph Hatt on an honor well deserved! We sincerely appreciate your sensitivity and professionalism. – Your admirers at 5 Airport Road
Chucky Smith is a great guy. That’s a loss for Lakewood and a win for the gangs! Will he be working for Home Land Security?
A huge thank you to Chief Lawson and the LPD for their dedicated service to our community.
Hats off to Chaveirim for always being there for us and the kiddush Hashem you make serving all of Lakewood.
This was an impressive ceremony where so many of the LPD’s finest were honored. Mayor Menashe Miller opened the ceremony by changing his Mayor’s hat for his role as Rabbi, when he led the audience in prayer for the safety of these and other officers and fallen Officer Christopher Matloz
The umber of Meritorious Awards, Life Saving Awards, Exceptional Service Awards, Communications Citations, and Civilian Service Awards speaks volumes about Lakewood’s Finest.
May G-D Bless them all and keep them safe.
