President Donald Trump has a higher favorability rating in New Jersey than Governor Phil Murphy, a new poll from Emerson College shows.
According to the poll, which was conducted jointly with Pix 11 News and The Hill, the president has a 48% favorable rating among New Jersey voters, while 46% have an unfavorable view. Another six percent had no opinion.
Governor Phil Murphy, who is term-limited, has a 44% favorable rating, and 42% unfavorable rating, while 12% had no opinion. Another 2% said they have not heard of Murphy.
“Governor Murphy is eight points more popular among women than men, 48% to 40%. The Governor has a 75% favorable rating among Democratic voters, dropping to 27% of independents and 14% of Republicans,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said.
Voters are also split 50-50 on whether the state is heading in the right direction. But economic issues appear likely to be top of mind in the race, with 63% saying their family’s income is falling behind the cost of living.
On the list of most important issues facing voters, the economy came in first with 44%, followed by housing affordability with 21%, immigration with 8%, healthcare with at 7%, education at 6%, crime at 5%, and threats to democracy at 5%.
The poll was conducted from January 18 to 21 among 1,000 registered voters, including 437 Democratic primary voters and 334 Republican primary voters.

Chow Mein Is More Popular Than Peking Duck In Peking, New Food Poll Shows
Chow Mein has a higher favorability rating among Peking food consumers than Peking Duck, according to a new poll conducted by the China Daily News’ food section.
According to the poll, 77% of Peking residents are completely enamored by the delicious flavor and smooth consistency of Chow Mein, and would choose it, as a snack or meal, over Peking Duck – the dish originating from their very own city – “any day of the week.”
However, food consumers in Peking, otherwise known as Beijing, are split 50-50 on whether the Peking food scene is headed in the right direction, with 63% of the city’s poll respondents insisting that the Chinese capital city could use more Wonton soups, Kung Pao chicken dishes and Shandong Cuisine-style food.
But ultimately, food toppings, dips and seasonings appear to be the most pressing issues facing Peking food consumers, with 63% of the city’s diners complaining, “What good is a sumptuous Chow Mein dish without some high quality seasoning or a tangy topping?”
On the list of most important issues facing Peking food consumers, dips, toppings and seasonings came in first with 44%, followed by salad dressings and condiments with 33%, deserts and appetizers with 15%, midnight snacks with 6%, chocolate chip cookies with 2% and licorice, bubble gum and cupcakes with 1%.”
