JUST IN: 11:37 p.m. Hundreds of residents have just had their power restored after approximately 24 hours of no heat or electricity. As first reported here on TLS, hundreds of residents across Lakewood lost power last night as a result of the inclement weather. On 14th Street, a transformer blew after a telephone pole snapped in half (pictured), cutting power to the surrounding area. Many residents moved in with friends and family and filled their refrigerators with snow and ice to prevent food items from spoiling. TLS-08/TLS-64

Thanks you jcp&l. But why did it take 27 hours to fix this problem, they should have been working on this last night !!
I was told they can only work 16 hrs for safety reasons then go on 8 hours rest then return for work.
Live wires on the ground get 1st priority to protect the public from injury or death, when all wires are rendered harmless they start to repairs poles and restore the main powerlines and last to be fixed are the lines going to the houses.
The worker said they had 100’s of downed live lines in they area that needed to be addressed before our power was going to be restored
He stated that safety of the public was their first concern and they would be back to repair it within 16 hours and they were.
I don’t think we can complain South Jersey is still out of lights for over a week.
ok we survived, lot of blankets, warm clothes, but lets try not to have this problem again, remove dead limbs and trees and jcpl check poles on regular basis and replace , lots of wires were low hanging and lots trees were down all over our our town thanks 4 powerrrrrrrr

Why is your town not requiring underground electrical for all new construction?
99.9% of wires that fall down are small volt cable and phone lines. These wires you can cut by your self, there was maybe 1 or 2 power lines on the ground. And if they did fall and it was a black out that means they shorted out. JCP&L should a whole bunch of generators for problems like this

You my friend will get someone killed with the information your putting out. I know a little bit about electric and I would bet my life on it that I know more then you do. With that being said –
PEOPLE —–PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ANY WIRE CONNECTED TO A TELEPHONE POLE -All neutrals are bonded to the electrical system neutrals. In many cases the power lines contact the neutral and the fuses don’t blow -but it looks burnt.
THE NEUTRAL/GROUND RETURN PATH WILL BECOME ENERGIZED AND BACK FEED POWER ONTO CABLE AND PHONE LINES
Downed energized wire with insulation will burn on the ground and the fuse sometimes will not trip or blow because theres not enough fault current generated – the burning insulation has been known to reseal the wire to stop it from burning. BUT ITS STILL A LIVE WIRE . Energized wires with no insulation can sit on the ground and not blow the breaker
