JUST IN: Nearly 7,000 Out of Power in Lakewood, Howell [UPDATED]

Many homes and businesses are out of power in the northern end of Lakewood and south end of Howell this afternoon.

Multiple traffic lights are out along County Line Road in Lakewood, as well as on Rt. 9 at the Lakewood-Howell border.

The cause of the outage is not known at this time, but JCP&L says the power is expected to be restored by 3:30 PM.

UPDATE: They’re now giving a 4:00 PM restoration ETA.

UPDATE 1:25 PM: JCP&L spokesman Chris Hoenig tells TLS four full circuits in Howell and Lakewood are affected, affecting approximately 6,800 customers.

Hoenig says they will have a better ETR once they have eyes on what’s wrong.

UPDATE 1:41 PM: Power is expected to be restored momentarily, JCP&L tells TLS.

  1. Happens every other day and yet they will still keep raising the electric prices. No updates to our infrastructure yet they charge us as if they do. This needs to end!

    • It’s not just the township and the politicians. It’s the mentality that created this problem. A mentality that if one lives outside Lakewood they aren’t bnei torah.

  2. Where are our politicians? We need your help to replace JCP&L asap,
We keep on hearing that this is their last chance, let’s see some action.

    Thank you,

  3. Lakewood Residents Shocked to Learn There Were No Power Outages Yesterday!
Almost all of the homes and businesses in Lakewood had full electrical power yesterday, according to local sources. Moreover, there were no reported outages of traffic lights the entire day. The cause for this puzzling and rare phenomenon is still unknown at this time.
JCP&L issued a statement today in an effort to calm the rattled nerves of Lakewood residents who wondered out loud what kind of catastrophic incident could have possibly caused a complete 24 hour cycle with full electrical power across the entire township.
“We’ve been getting calls from anxious Lakewood residents asking us whether Doomsday has arrived, and whether they should purchase long-term disaster survival supply kits,” JCP&L said in the statement. “But rest assured that Lakewood residents have nothing to worry about, because, every so often, on rare occasions, the entire township will experience a complete 24 hour cycle with full electrical power.”
“It is without doubt a rare anomaly,” the statement added, “but it is nevertheless a perfectly normal occurrence, on par with lunar eclipses, NY Jets Super Bowls and the disappearances of ships and aircraft at the Bermuda Triangle.”

  4. Less people fewer power outages, lived here all my life and we never had power outages till the population got out of hand. Ya can’t blame the power company, go look in the mirror to see the culprit.
