Port Authority Proposes New Tolls For Bridges and Tunnels

The automatic Board-mandated increase will raise the auto peak E-ZPass tolls by $0.43 and truck peak E-ZPass tolls by $0.58 per axle, effective Jan. 5, 2025

In their Fiscal Year 2025 budget, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is proposing another toll hike at the 8 bridges and tunnels connecting the two states.

The proposed $9.4 billion 2025 budget, which must first be approved by the board of commissioners, asks for a 25-cent increase starting in January, followed by a quarter increase annually between 2026 and 2028. That would be in addition to the automatic inflation-based toll hikes which will be 46 cents in 2025.

Based on the Board-specified inflation adjustment, an automatic increase will occur effective January 5, 2025. The automatic Board-mandated increase will raise the auto peak E-ZPass tolls by $0.43 and truck peak E-ZPass tolls by $0.58 per axle, effective Jan. 5, 2025.

The budget cites losses from the pandemic and inflation as two main reasons for a decrease in revenue for the bi-state agency.

The proposed toll comes on the same day that New York Governor Hochul announced she is bringing back her congestion pricing plan for New Jersey drivers entering Midtown and Lower Manhattan.

The Port Authority controls eight bridges and tunnels connecting New Jersey and New York. They include the Outerbridge, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge, George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel and Lincoln Tunnel.

Millions of motorists make use of these tunnels and bridges each year.

  1. This is the difference. REPUBLICAN (Former) Gov. Hogan REDUCED all the tolls in Maryland. Many by around 30%, some as much as 55%!!!
When this happens here we’ll know gehenom is a frozen lake.
