Port Authority Approves Toll, Fare Hike

toll-roadThe Port Authority of New York and New Jersey this morning unanimously approved a $1.50 toll hike at its six bridges and tunnels. The toll hikes affect the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the Outerbridge Crossing, the Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and George Washington bridge.

PATH fares will also increase by $1 at a rate of 25 cents per year for four years, instead of $1 at once.

The Port Authority had originally announced a hike of $4 on bridges and tunnels this year and another $2 increase in 2014.

  1. These toll hikes are obscene. The Port Authority needs to be held accountable for every penny it spends. A major audit and a revamping of the current system are necessary to prevent this robbery from continuing.

  2. OK I understand the need to keep up with the increasing costs that any business incur’s however the timing for anyone raising rates with the state of this economy its extremely counter productive .
Just as with our government the issue is not revenue but spending habits The PA should be looking at ways to save by cutting waste (I’m sure there is lots of it) before putting the burden on the commters

  3. Is anyone old enough to remember if Port Authority EVER lowered their rates due to a surplus of funds? Why is there somehow never a surplus. Can they never overestimate costs? I assume when there’s a surplus, there’s bonuses! When there’s a deficit we gotta keep up with those fat salaries too.
