Popular Power Banks Recalled Over Fire, Burn Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of approximately 481,000 Anker power banks due to risks of overheating, fire, and burn injuries. The products were manufactured by Anker Innovations Limited of China, with sales in the U.S. from August 2023 through June 2025.

What’s Going On

Anker power banks with model numbers A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, and A1689 are included in the recall. These devices are designed for portable charging of phones, tablets, and laptops, with maximum outputs ranging from 7.5 watts (for the MagSafe model A1652) to 30 watts (for models A1681 and A1689). Anker’s name is engraved on the front of each unit and the model number appears on the side or back, next to an “SN Code.”

Hazards & Reported Incidents

  • The lithium-ion batteries in these power banks can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

  • The company has received 33 reports of fire or explosion.

  • Among these, there were 4 minor burn injuries and one incident of substantial property damage.

What Consumers Should Do

  • Stop using the recalled power banks immediately.

  • Visit Anker’s recall page to check your serial number (next to “SN Code”) and model number to see if your device is affected.

  • Those with affected units can obtain a full cash refund or an Anker gift card usable across Anker’s product lines. To get the remedy, consumers must submit a photo showing the model number, serial number, their name, the date, and the word “recalled” written on the power bank.

Disposal Instructions

Consumers are strongly advised not to discard recalled power banks in regular trash, general recycling bins, or standard battery recycling boxes. Lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of through proper hazardous waste channels. Users should contact their local household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center to determine whether they accept recalled lithium-ion devices. If not, they may need to seek further guidance from municipal officials.

Where Sold & Price

These power banks were sold nationwide in the U.S. through major retailers including Best Buy and Target, as well as online via Amazon, Walmart, AliExpress, eBay, and on TikTok, among others. Prices ranged from about $30 to $50.
