  1. It is illegal to discriminate against people based on their age, so the question is a moot point. I do however think people should need to prove every 5 to 10 years that they are still capable of driving competently.

  2. I have a uncle 92 years old & he is always alert he drives perfectly!! Also there is a man in Lakewood Courtyard in his high 80’s, he’s a very safe diver. He has a Car Sevice he has driven my boys to the Airport, they were very happy!!
If anything perhaps we should restrict driving in NJ till the age of 18 or 19 like in other states, it’s much more likely for a teenager to be involved in a accident than a senior!! Ask any Hatzolah member or Auto Repair Shop they’ll tell you it’s common for teenagers to be involved with car accidents not so much by the elderly!!

    • I totally agree. It’s easy to put your car in the wrong gear. I’ve done it, and I’m not near 90, yet. On the other side, that parking lot is a nightmare. There has been accidents there. I was almost hit walking across the parking lot. There’s something about the design.

  3. To Leah Lando
Y in the World would you compare driving to SS benefits? R U aware that people can collect SS at age 62? That age is prime time for driving? Also in this democratic Fairest country USA we don’t descriminate because of age!! Look you can be 90 years old and still be entitled to a 30 year mortgage!! So you are definitely entitled to drive!!

  4. I don’t think a restriction is a good idea. However I do think that at a certain age they should require yearly recertification. Its not just for the safety of the population but for older drivers as well.

Old age is something we should respect. We need to respect our elders and at the same time understand what old age can do to reflexes etc..

  5. There should definitely be more frequent testing for older people to keep their licensing. It is folly to risk people’s lives in the name of political correctness.

BTW I doubt that store will be closed for just one day, that looks like some pretty serious structural damage.

  6. Cradle to grave, total Government control of our lives. Remember the Democratic mantra we the Government and we know better than you.
I am sure that the law will have exception if you are willing to pay a small fee.

  7. Parallel parking and k turns will not show you if a teenager will drive wrecklessly next week. However, even just a driving test can help check if an elderly person is in a position to be able to drive responsibly. How can you call it age discrimination if we limit many things to age i.e. 19 for tobacco, 21 for alcohol? That’s for safety! EXACTLY!

  8. Will make short this time. Completely agree with # 5 and 6 Everybody drive GESUNTERHEIT, BUt young and old do not use the cell phone or text while driving.

  9. There should definitely be a yearly test that must be taken every year to renew their licens above a certain age to determine if the person is still able to drive safely. It is too scary out there to have people driving who are not capable of driving safely on their own.
