first write what his decision was then run your poll
The law is the law. We must respect it regardless. Who am I to disagree?
Throw these guys out.
#1, if you’re up-2-date on the lkwd scoop, ud know what the judge said!!
The town approves all this building…yet seems to miss the point on much needed low income housing… The amount of people moving to Lakewood will eventually make driving impossible. Lakewood is climbing in numbers for auto accidents almost daily now… some fatal… During the week its City driving conditions…Eventually everyone will be living in the woods…there are people in Pine Park and in the woods along rt 37 in Toms River… this is a growing problem in ocean county..
lakewood should build a homeless shelter, after all they (tent city) do get township services!
Being a typical jersey judge he passed on making a decision that might offend someone. The parties were in court because they couldn’t come to an agreement, it was up to him to decide.
Although the housing for low income or no income must be addressed, many people from tent city are there ONLy because Tent City is OPEN.
Many of them are not originaly from Lakewood, or even NJ.
Lakewood NEEDS to SHUT the TENT CITY DOWN NOW!!!!
Let the other municipalities and Lakewood OPEN their shelters for people who have no place to sleep.
Give a finger – take a hand. This is what happened with Tent City.
Let snot forget about the 2 death that occured there.
Social workers have been brought there and the “residents” of tent city must accept some of the solutions proposed to them. If there are not working solutions than the social workers need to report this and find some other options for the residents. They need a roof on their heads and to find a job to help them live in a normal constructed facility.
tent city is only drawing more homeless people not even from Lakewood.
There is no real solution unless the township really cracks down on other problems as well like the clothing drives in the town center and all other charity going on there its like we are just asking them to come and after all these law suites it will prob be cheaper to just buy them a decent property with cottages somewhere out of ocean county and let the revern invite them all there
We need to stand up to this. It is not right to have this tent city in our town. They should go to a homeless shelter.
@ #9, the clothing drives you speak of it’s not just the homeless but also for the poor that can’t afford new clothing or coats. And all the other charity?????? What now the township should shut down the soup kitchens that feed the poor just because you don’t like it???? And if the township should crack down on the other problems in the town, like talking on cells, going through red lights, the list goes on and on, then will you complain if say you got a ticket for talking on your cell??? Must be nice to think because you want something and snap you fingers things get done the way you want when you want it sorry doesn’t happen that way.
i beleive we are headed for a massive gridlock in lakewood. we will get to the point where it will be faster to walk then commute by car. Yes another new york city . i ask , what is the purpose of moving to a town like lakewood if it is being turned into a crowded city with all the problems of a major city. The more people move in the more you open up opportunities for crime and corruption to take over. It’s not smart to keep building , there should be a point where construction is disaalowed like in other towns .
as far as the homeless , yes this will get worse as the town grows, at least they are in one area . If you get rid of tent city ,the homeless will walk the streets of lakewood, just like new york city. Think about this,,,,,,,,, what will lakewood look like then,
what is happening with lakewood? it use to be a quiet town with very few MVA and veru few crime…………
To Yitz: Great idea Yitz, except there is no homeless shelter for them to go to.
How about building some low income places for the people already living in lakewood, not for all the new people coming in.
There is no such thing as low income housing in Lakewood. There is no housing left for low income people in Lakewood at all. It is a shame that there is an apartment complex just down the road from tent city that is boarded up and basically abandoned, all that needs to be fixed is the plumbing in the building. Its a shame that can’t be fixed up for people to live in once again.
The rent in lakewood is so High for single person.
I like to rent 1 bedroom
To common sense you really don’t have any you can place this charity in a corner somewhere not in the center of town
why not build a shelter in the industrial park?????
@17, really????? Let’s just shove everything in a corner to pacify you and everyone else?
@18 can’t do that either, using the buildings for schools, it would be nice though.
to #18 that was the point i was getting at.
TO 19. That seems to be the way in Lakewood but I know these buildings are not being used for a school it the intersection of MLK and Lois lane. The entire west section of the building complex is vacant.
By the way that’s 30 apartments that are vacant that if repaired could be used.
to #22
condemn those appartments and put up single family housing
@21 if they used those vacant apartments for a shelter people that live in the neighborhood would complain. it’s just seems like a no win situation, the freeholder’s and elected officials really should come up with a viable solution.
