  1. No because he and Congress took away exemptions and limited our state and local tax deductions to $10,000.

They want to move everyone to the standardized deduction and destroy middle class property ownership.

Young people with children under 18 benefit but the loss of exemption will cause everyone else to pay thousands more. This was the biggest (and only) tax increase in my life!

      • Rich liberal. Who do you think you are?

Who won the civil war? What are the three branched of government? What is the power of the purse?

What will happen when we no longer have a large property class, children who are not socialized in patriotism and the president oversteps his boundaries, with of course popular support, like the counsels of Rome?

    • New York, New Jersey and Calf are the only states that did not benefit from President Trumps tax cuts. So maybe you should elect people that know how to manage money. These 3 states get a dollar in tax money and spend two dollars.
Why should the rest of the country pay your bills. Pay your fair share then elect people that don’t spend wildly.

    • $4,000 for me. $4,000 for my wife. $4,000 each child. Expemptions are now GONE. You only get a $500 credit for each child over 18 in college rather than $4,000 exemption.

  2. President Trump loves America. He is speaking at the Peace Memorial Service today.
However, Obama had Poetry Night in the White House with guests such as the rapper Common, who wrote a song dedicated to the woman of the Black Liberation Army that assassinated State Trooper Werner Foerster in May 1973. The contrast is stark.

  3. If he were the president of Lakewood than your right, but because he’s presi of the USA, you need to judge the overall effect. Not your personal community. Noone cares.

  4. Any jew who has the chutzpah to vote no has magor issues! And teacher go get your facts straight. If your taxes were indeed raised your making alot of money and are not in thr middle class.

  5. Whats your income? Your house you own, how much is it worth? Tell me your info and i can help you poor soul out. Or get an acountant. Unless your making over 400k a year or live in a house thats worth a lot of $$$ your not having a tax increase. And if you are you deserve it. Help us poor middle classers who are struggling and have no idea how theyll ever own a house. And yes me and my husband both work, make 130k a year and rent. And thanks to president trumo got a huge a tax break for mext yr

  6. If what Franlin called the mittling class, the class of property owners, is reduced, our republic will be endangered. Who will defend stand for checks and balances? We will become like the Roman principate and lose our freedom.

For one hundred years, the tax code encouraged property ownership with deceptions for mortgages and property taxes. Under the Repbulican tax hike, only landlords can deduct (above the line!) mortgages and property taxes. The backbone of our nation, those whose boys have fought for our freedom, the middle class, is being driven into the standardized deduction. And what do they gain with the standardized deception? NOTHING because the two exemptions (husband and wife, $8,000) is equal to in the increase in the standardized deception.

So 150 years from now, or so, when property is in the hands of a minority, and the children of patriot become the rabble of the consuls, without a stake in survival of our republic and its laws of property, we will to will be dictatorship

    • if you’re a teacher you should learn a bit of english word is deduction and math $8000 doesn’t equal $12,000
no one is dispossessing the middle class of property now that the SALT is capped at $10,000 the middle class will force their states to lower their taxes under the cap by voting out tax and spend democrats

  7. Are you really a teacher??
If you are THATS the problem in this country. I wish trump had a way to fix that also
If we can get rid of these crazy liberal teachers then maybe our future (children) would grow up knowing how to think

  8. Adam Smith and John Locke, the claasic thinkers of antiquity, all understood that a republic cannot survive wirhout a large class of property owners standing vigil to protect their rights and nation. Disposses them and their loyalty lies with the executive, the tribune ( as Augustus called himself) and not the constitution, traditions and laws.

We are a nation of laws and not of men. Undermine home ownership, the man, the man who feeds the people bread and circuses, will become supreme with checks upon his power.

Keep Americans owning their homes and propeety and the laws will remain sacred

  9. yes but the standard deduction doubled so that’s $12,000 more which should cover that and tax rate is down which would cover the rest

    • Who takes the standard deduction? Home owners itemize. Hence we lost $8,000 in exemptions, which for a hundred years, everyone, including those that itemize take.

We will become a nation of dispossessed and the leaders of the future will control the vote through handouts.

The Founding Fathers knew this would be our ultimate fate.

INCIDENTLY- Read Federalist 10, what Madison says about factions. Seems like people here like the man and their faction more than they love their nation and its polity.

  10. I wish everyone who voted in this poll would actually vote in the real election.

People are just lazy and don’t understand the privilege we have to be able to vote.

Many countries still don’t have that!

    VOTE!!!
    (In the real elections!)

  11. To our dear teacher,

Facts are important, let’s not jade this conversation with your seeming hatred of conservatism and small government. Firstly, the standard tax deduction has doubled from 12 to 24 thousand. The charity tax deduction hasn’t been touched so go ahead and take advantage of that. Lastly, your frustration should be taken out on your local municipality and state for their outrageous property taxes. There is no reason whatsoever that the federal government (through property tax deductions) should be indirectly footing the bill for your state’s reckless spending habits. Finally such states will have to face the music and bear the wrath of their voting base. Fortunately you are in minority of state’s with this issue along with liberal NY, CT, CA. The majority have benefited from the new tax code.

  12. People are missing the point. This is not a Yankee or Confederate issue.

The exemptions are gone no matter what state you live in. Exemptions were good whether you took the standard deduction or itemized.

The federal government is encouraging people NOT to itemize and to take the standard deduction. The incentive for home ownership is gone because people are better off not itemizing and taking the $24,000 deduction.

In short, the Republicans, without a national debate, took the $8,000 plus in expeditions that used to be available for people that itemized and abolished them, and made $12,000 available for people that take the standard deduction ie. non home owners.

  13. General comment: Is it possible to argue a point and explain why you disagree or why you think the other person is wrong without belittling or demeaning the actual person?
