I just have one question, do they do this in other towns well?
Maybe if we obeyed the driving laws more seriously they wouldn’t have to be watching Lakewood.

I agree, although I feel bad for people being pulled over the driving in this town gets worse by the day. It doesn’t help that the whole Brooklyn moved here and brought their retarted driving with them. But people are also very selfish and think their time is more important than everyone else’s. Yes – I welcome them. Driving in Lakewood is a trial at best. If we had fewer accidents, fewer violations, fewer ticketing opportunities….they would go somewhere else. Lakewood needs all the help we can get.
Fact 1 : most serious accidents happen in areas that the NJSP do NOT target
Fact2 most serious accidents occur during the weekend and have other factors ie: alcohol involved
So what exactly are the state police accomplishing And they should provide data of enforcement in other townships as well !
if you are careful when you drive you have nothing to fear.
if they stop even one crash that could have injured someone it is worth it.
I support this, but I believe we need to lower the speed limit and increase traffic calming like in Brooklyn, in particular make more physical barriers like speed bumps to lower speeding.
Brooklyn has the worst driving and all of those aggressive drivers now moved here and brought their city driving. If people would be considerate of everyone around them and slow down then it would be way better
35 MPH is low enough, and speed bumps? Don’t even mention them. Everyone should just drive respectfully and not aggressively without talking on their cell phones. I don’t mind a police presence because I have nothing to fear, I drive according to the rules.
If they were to target every PA and Illinois plate with unlicensed or non residents of those states driving in Lakewood at least equally then maybe.
Most of what I see is them targeting are the woman driving the minivans early morning with their kids to school.
Targeting? Those women driving the mini vans in the mornings are some of the worst drivers in Lakewood. Trust me…I’m out there taking my kids to school every day.

Actually some of the very worst drivers – with NY plates btw- are men rushing places, cutting u off like they own the street! Stop driving like ur in Brooklyn- if u lived there b4: u need to respect a different driving style here in NJ. Stop making chillul Hashem!

I still believe that speed is the one factor that leads to danger and crashes, therefore we need 25 mph throughout town and speed bumps in places like pine street where people feel like its the autobahn, speed kills.
just letting you know that the posted speed limit is figured out with engineers based on what is safe under normal driving condition on that road.
Hence why it changes at some stretches of the road.
so if you are driving below the posted speed you are obstructing traffic.
so we don’t need lower speed limits we need more observant drivers.

most of the speed limits around town were established when the streets handled a way lower amount of traffic( car and pedestrian) volume. Time for an update.
Cops should most certainly ticket anyone who parks at a yellow line. I hope for the best every time i make a turn.

Lakewood has more advantages than Brooklyn. Driving the system not the roads. Population boom. Taxes rise (should be opposite). Cannot sustain growth. Trend will continue.
Because you must be a driver’s ed teacher? You should know that NJSP works off statistics and prioritize operations accordingly. They do not use a dart board.
I wish they’d at least help out with the CRIME!!
This is all just a money maker. They are targeting Jewish women as another writer posted. (after all, they know she won’t pull a gun or attempt to flee)
Other townships have far worse driving habits like road rage, drunk drivers or people throwing soda bottles out the window (oh right it happened in lkwd, but it was a brick resident polluting our streets)
I got pulled over for holding a chocolate bar. I got a warning for holding a cell phone. The trooper was so embarrassed and he tried asking me for my kids ages if they were in proper seatbelts and seats which they were so I got warning. So ridiculous he couldn’t let me go with nothing!

As a Brooklyn native now living in Lakewood, I would like to share some thoughts.
1)DO concentrate on driving. DO NOT concentrate on sipping your morning coffee, or enjoying your hot pizza…
2) DO keep up with the flow of traffic. DO NOT troll along at 10 miles below the speed limit. DO NOT make sudden stops. DO NOT stay in the left lane if you are going slower than the right lane.
3) DO drive with purpose. DO NOT wait until you get to an intersection to decide which way you want to go. DO NOT sit at a stop sign for five minutes trying to figure out who came first…try to keep it moving. DO NOT drive if you are distracted. Pull over and resolve the distraction. Remember, a vehicle is a fabulous thing but also can be a danger if not handled with care.
4) DO be aware of other drivers. DO use your blinkers! Signaling is not just a formality. It communicates your intentions to the drivers you share the road with. DO merge correctly- one from the right, one from the left.
5) VERY IMPORTANT: PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE! In NY, there’s 5 points plus a huge fine for cellphones, and for good reason. It doesnt matter if you hold it by your mouth on speaker instead of your ear. You need two hands available at all times. One and a half hands will not do.
6) BIKERS: DO bike along with the flow of traffic. DO NOT bike against traffic. I know it seems logical that you want to see the cars coming towards you. But in reality, the cars coming towards you do not anticipate you, especially when they are turning. The safest way is to bike along traffic going your way,(that’s the law in NJ) making sure to watch for cars turning right. AND please wear a helmet!
7) HONKING should be reserved for dangers. There are times when honking is necessary, like to alert a driver who may not see you coming. Surely, tgere are times when honking is unnecessary and should nit be used excessively.
8) DO yield to pedestrians when turning. If they are crossing, WAIT for them!
These are some things I have learned over the years of driving. Traffic in NY is highly regulated by NYPD and strictly enforced. This compels city drivers to know the rules and follow them. The stereotypical honking, rude Brooklyn driver is not all that accurate. In my experience, I have known them to be adept, aware and driving mindfully, as opposed to many who appear to be “out to lunch” (LITERALLY HAVING LUNCH!) while driving.
Mainly, remember my driving instructor’s parting advice- Drive as if everyone else on the road might be meshuga! Keep your eyes on the road, anticipate the unexpected, and say Tefillas HaDerech!

Ok all of you very happy people, wait till you get pulled over by a njsp for driving on the yellow lines of a left turning lane and then you could vote again. And don’t say you don’t do that I watch you all doing it every day.
If they would concentrate on real safety maybe but I was wrongfully pulled over for talking on a cell phone. In fact I was stopped behind traffic and GLANCED down. The trooper pulled me over and ticketed me. IMPORTANT: cell phone tickets are very serious. Get one and it’s $200 bucks, 2nd offense $400, third in 10 years and you’re SUSPENDED. Yup, that’s the law. So about 8 years ago I got a ticket which was then a small infraction so this is my second offense. I did not pick up the phone and I was stopped. So go fight city hall. Dear Troopers, we love that you keep us safe but please work with us and don’t just take pride in filling up your ticket book.
The State Police need to be in the town. I drive a School Bus in Lakewood 8 hours a day. I can see right into your vehicles. I will say about 80 % of drivers are on their cell phones, eating and or reading. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Just do the right things and obey the laws. There will be no Problem. Lakewood Police need to be pulling more cars over to.
What’s wrong with police? You should not have an issue with their presence—unless your breaking the law! Well, in that case, you should be ticketed! There is absolutely no excuse for compromising the safety of others. It makes no difference where your going, safety must be first priority. The selfish, I’m better then everyone else, only my needs matter mentality has got to stop. It’s not fun to be fined, but the streets of Lakewood aren’t a hefker velt.
