UPDATED: Police on the Lookout For Suspect Who Committed Armed Robbery At Toms River Gas Station

UPDATED: Lakewood and Toms River Police are on the lookout for a suspect who robbed a gas station attendant at gunpoint this evening, TLS has learned. The armed robbery occurred at the Exxon gas station at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 571 in Toms River, at about 6:30 PM.

Police say the suspect, described as a white male about 6′ feet tall wearing a grey sweatshirt and a black hat, pulled a black handgun at the attendant demanding cash.

The suspect made off with about $400 in cash before jumping a fence near the gas station, fleeing on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Toms River Police Department.

UPDATE 10:15 PM: Within 30 minutes of the robbery, Officer Frank Moschella observed a suspect matching the description of the suspect at Old Freehold Road and the Garden State Parkway, Toms River Chief Michael Mastronardy says. 

The suspect, a 21 year old Pleasant Plains man, is in the process of being charged with the robbery after an investigation by Detectives Roger Hull, Brian Lomer and Louis Santora, Mastronardy said.

Also assisting in the investigation is the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department. TLS-TRCCP.

    No, it should not. The gas station was robbed without a doubt. If and when a suspect is identified, he would be referred to as the alleged suspect until convicted at trial.

  2. I’m happy they caught the guy. Imagine a fiend like that roaming ous streets. I’m even happier they caught the perp w/out further stretching our resources, i.e. Lcsw, shomrim & chaveirim. I still don’t know how they caught him w/ out setting up a command post. DB

    your comment should read. Do you suffer or have OCD?

    BTW, as the economic situation deteriorates, it would be wise if people were to take extra precautionary measures regarding their safety & well – being. People are becoming desperate & will go to extreme measures to get their hands on cash & valuables.
