Police Officer David Sussman: Beware Of Phone Scam

The following was submitted by Lakewood Police Officer David Sussman: Shalom and happy holiday season. Beware of a phone scam occurring in the community lately. You may receive a call from someone identifying themselves as a federal employee and they’ll claim that you’ve been selected by the government to receive a $7,000.00 “grant”.

They will say you were chosen as one of a limited number of people because of your good credit and tax history. The caller will tell you to go to the nearest Western Union, to call them as you’re walking in, and to wire them an amount of money (I’ve heard $110-$180). They say that they will then wire you the money back plus the $7,000.00 “grant”.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM.

The government is not giving out $7,000.00 grants to people who never even applied for a loan, grant, or subsidy. Like all scams, if it sounds too goo to be true, it is.

Have a wonderful Sukkos.
Ptl. David Sussman
