Police are monitoring several reports of a man driving around and offering candy to children, Detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says.
TLS yesterday and today received reports of a man driving around and offering candy, and other food items to children, whereupon the children fled from the vehicle. One of the incidents occurred in the Miller Road area.
“In the past couple of days a car has been seen in our neighborhood (Miller Rd. area) trying to lure children into the car by offering candy,” one mother wrote to TLS. “The kids reported the car as being either a blue or greenĀ convertible. Maybe people should be made aware that there is someone driving around town trying this.”
Dsgt. Staffordsmith says they are investigating and monitoring the reports, but there’s currently no indication thatĀ the driver or drivers attempted to lure the children.
“He may be odd, or just friendly,” says Staffordsmith, adding that he is pleased that children are taking the precaution to stay away from such behaviors.
