Police, LFA Revive Man Who Collapsed at Basketball Game in LHS

PHOTOS: Lakewood Police Officers and Lakewood First Aid members are credited today for saving the life of a young man who collapsed during a basketball game at the Lakewood High School, police confirm to TLS.

At about 8 PM yesterday evening, police received a frantic call from the Lakewood High School gymnasium about a man who had just collapsed, and stopped breathing, sources tell TLS. Multiple officers raced to the scene.

Officers Jason Yahr and Steve Kowaleski were first to arrive on scene and ran into the gym to find the approximately 35 year old man in Cardiac Arrest, with friends just standing around in complete shock.

Officer Kowaleski began performing CPR, while Officer Yahr ran back to his patrol car for the Automatic External Defibrillator. By this time, Officer Dan Merrill also arrived and assisted the other Officers.

After performing CPR and shocking the man at least three times, the officers suddenly saw a faint pulse return, police say.

First Aiders and Paramedics arrived moments later and continued CPR, while transferring the man into the waiting ambulance. He was rushed to Kimball Medical Center.

Officials say, upon arrival to the hospital the man’s pulse returned and he was breathing. [TLS]

  1. this is why it is so important for everyone to learn CPR. So this guy collapses, and a gym full of people just stand around “in shock”? unacceptable.

  2. #4 not only is your comment so pathetic its factually untrue. The organizations in this town are here for all. That is true with Hatzolah and that is true with Chaveirim and its also true with LCSW.

  3. That’s because you never called. That’s a good thing, it means you never required their services. Are you complaining ? Would you like bad things to happen in your neighborhood ? I must say, some ridiculous comments on this thread.

  4. When it comes to saving a life does it matter who it is or how old they are? It is someone’s family member, it shouldn’t matter what their background is in this world today. A life is a life..Great job by all the emergency responders who were there, another PERSON saved. Im sure the family is greatful, no matter who the responders were. LPD, Hatzolah Paramedics, LFA all did a great job that

  5. People can be so Rude with there Comments , Don’t listen at them there just looking for Attention ..Anyway i’m glad this Guy is doing well, Good Goen ,LPD !!
