#2 This has nothing to do about a wolf it was a suitcase that someone left behind. If I left a cup of coffee on the curb in front of a private school The bomb squad will come running.

Do we really need to report every single suitcase/backpack/lunchbox that we find around town to the police? If you call them, they are obligated to investigate it – as they would get in trouble if they ignore+d you and it turned out to be a bomb. But is it really necessary for us to report every empty suitcase to the police???
Has there ever been a ‘Chafetz Chashud’ that turned out to be a bomb in Lakewood? NO! In America? NO!!!!

In Israel, I agree that this is warranted since it has a precedent, and there have been bombs left in suitcases etc.

I saw a lunchbox left in the elevator in an office building in Lakewood. Had I called 911, it would have been on TLS and the block would have been shut down for hours. Instead, I left things as is, and the owner probable came shortly after to eat his peanut butter & jelly sandwhich!!!

hey #4 this is an off shot of Isreal if you have not noticed. Have you also noticed this is the 1 year anniversary of the killing of usamma and tommorrow is the trial start of the Sheik in Guantanemo. High profile anniversaries are always a tough time for maybe copycats or people who are sympathetic supporters. Transit police have posters all over the place and have increased awareness as it has been all over the news. Maybe nothing yet but lets see what happens when it does and all the people critise stating how the township resources were not prepared and should have taken it serious.

I know that it is almost certain that these suitcases won’t be bombs. But if you don’t call the police or terrorist hear that the police don’t take these seriously then don’t be so certain anymore. As the saying goes “If you want peace prepare for war”.

The should be an investigation and those who left the suitcases should face MAJOR fines. That would discourage people from leaving suitcases around and burdening the police unnecessarily.

it could be a terrorist plan… leaving empty ones around for a while until chas vosholom they will leave one to do a bad job (after noone gets alarmed anymore that suitcases around are a danger). Better safe than sorry.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lakewood Police Department and its officers for putting your lives on the line to protect us. A special thank you to your families who allowed you to risk your lives for us.

THANK YOU!!!

May G-d Almighty protect you from all harm.

I think the police should take fingerprints and then send a bill to the person who owned the suitcase

Terrorists havent left bombs in bags for a long time, they would use a garbage can or the trunk of a car, reacting like this does not keep anyone safe it just makes people nervous for every little bag they see. if the terrorist want to go through the trouble of making a bomb they will not make it so obvious as to leave it in plain view for the bomb squad to get it

I’m happy to see that the Police Dept. is taking this serious.
No this is not Israel, Irag, Afghanistan, Ireland or any other third world country but we are just as much a threat as any one else.
There have been plenty of suspicous items and threats in 2012 all around the United States most turn out to be false but there are several reported cases that have turned out to be the real thing that have caused injuries and damage.
We are very lucky and need to thank all of the first responders of Lakewood for taking these threats serious.

Since it happens in Israel it is a great possibility it could happen here.

Lakewood is officially a DHS “soft” terrorist target. What’s the plan when there’s more than one suitcase? Terrorists are criminals and criminals use decoys all the time. Terrorists are also in bed with gangs and drugs. Unfortunately we need more vigilance and resources not less.

Hey Ari

You may be correct about the suitcases but on the other hand you would be very surprised to see and know where terrorists are hiding explosives and how they are setting them off in todays age. We cannot judge a book by its cover, size or color when dealing with terrorism, if we do then we will get ourselves in trouble.

ied’s used by terrorists wont be in a suitcase.

i dont bash this type of response…. i simply can not fathom why charges are not filed and the public made aware that if you act like a careless fool = you will be prosecuted. this way this type of nonsense will be nipped in the bud.

#11, before you bash & speak negative….
The article originally said 1st & Lexington, so when someone said this happening at 1st & Clifton,yes your are right 1 + 1 = 2, BUT 2 + 1 = 3!!!!!

all fun and games until a package goes BOOM! Let L.E. do it’s work and give them some room on the scene. And remember, if you can see it (the package), it can see you, so stay way back. I can hear little kids in the background of the videos, they are not safe. When these things are made, they are made for damage and injury and death in a good sized area, not just where it sits. And Zydeco, do you know what a device looks like? It isn’t the bowling ball looking object with a fuse that Wil-e-cyote used on the road runner. So let L.E. do their work and thank them next time. What about the false alarms from people that call up about a package that they found at the front door, then after it’s opened, slap their forehead and remember the order they placed a few days before for delivery.
