Police Chief Rob Lawson Urges School Closings For Wednesday

lawson video messageThe following is a message sent to TLS by Police Chief Rob Lawson: This is a serious snow storm with our area expected to get 15-16 inches of snow (some estimates are 18-20 inches) accompanied by strong winds (35+mph) which will create blizzard conditions this evening and Wednesday. I strongly recommend that the public and private schools close for all of Wednesday for the safety of the students and teachers- the fewer vehicles on the roadway the better. All vehicles should be removed from the roadways to facilitate plowing and all non-emergency vehicles should remain off the roads until at least Thursday morning.

Thank you,
Chief Rob Lawson

  1. Thank you…It seems there is more traffic around the schools ( parents dropping off ) when there is no busing due to the weather, less traffic will make it easier to plow and improve road conditions.

  2. All schools public and private allow for snow days in their calendar year. This is a wise move, and helps avoid confusion in the morning time of trying to find out weather there is or is not school. So stay home, enjoy the day off, let your kids be kids and if you need, do some home schooling, studying, and learning in your safe warm house.
    Kudos chief for stepping up.

  3. even if the heads dont cancel school the weather will do it for them, u wont be able to go anywere wen. 18″ maybe more for lakewood and nyc. btw ny already canceled public school!! blizzard conditions from wen. late morning to late night enjoy the storm…. be safe and stay off the roads!!

  4. That’s right you tell them. I don’t think they can make the proper decisions till the very last minute. The B.O.E. still does not know what they should do about tomorrow and it’s now 1:30pm. Does it always have to be a spur of the moment decision? All surrounding districts put the children safety 1st, there is no question they call it immediately, and let the parents know early enough so that if arrangements need to be made they have time to do so. COME ON LAKEWOOD WAKE UP!!! It’s bad when our Chief of Police has to tell you.

  5. everyone needs to use common sense.while the snow has not arrived as of yet,we should prepare ourselves.think..what is needed for home and family/besides food[lets not forget comfort food],does your home have enough diapers, batteries, candles.matchessnow melt and shovels?as for food,of course you need to make sure you have the basics…milkformula, bread, pasta and non-perishables in case od power outage.a quick to the library will be a big help in preventing “cabin fever”. all should stay safe and warm at home!

  6. It is 7:08 PM and I just checked the Lakewood schools web site http://www.lakewood.k12.nj.us/ and there is nothing there about any school closing. As usual the people will have to wait until the snow is 5 inches deep to learn there is no school. Channel 12 already has posted that Toms River schools will be closed tomorrow.
