Police Chief Rob Lawson: LCSW Tremendous Asset To The Police Department

pd arrest chase“They’ve done an excellent job”, Police Chief Rob Lawson says of LCSW after they assisted police with several arrests in the last few weeks. During the last week, the Lakewood Civilian Safety Patrol volunteer group has been directly responsible for the arrest of 3 men, after they were witnessed committing crimes.

On February 16, police arrested a Hispanic man after an LCSW member witnessed him moving stolen property following a burglary the previous night. Two days later, police chased down two Hispanic men after they were seen attempting to gain access into a 12th Street home.

“They are a tremendous asset to the police department”, Chief Lawson tells TLS. “They do a terrific job enabling us to make these arrests”, the Chief said.

However, the Chief did have a tad of criticism for those who call the watch group before police, in incidents involving more than just a suspicious person call.

“What concerns me is that some will call the group before police”, the Chief said. “I understand that some feel more comfortable calling the group first, but in some cases this can cost us the arrest”, says Lawson. “It delays our response”. “If you hear someone breaking in, call police”, the Chief said.

But overall, the LCSW group says Chief Lawson does provide a great service to the community, especially with the current under-staffing in police.

“They are providing us with good information”, Lawson says. “It’s nice to have other sources of information”. TLS.

  1. The best is to always call LCSW as well as the POLICE, although LCSW will call the POLICE themselves if they know its needed.

But the advantage of calling LCSW all together is to help POLICE with surrounding the area and keeping an eye which is always simply helpful by increasing eyes on the situation.

  2. does anyone know which rabonim in town support LCSW?? (before all the bashing comments- not saying they are not good, just wondering before i send in my application)

  3. However, the Chief did have a tad of criticism for those who call the watch group before police

This isn’t a criticism for LCSW itself. It is a criticism of those who call LCSW in dangerous situations before they call the police.I’m sure LCSW would agree with this sentiment.

  4. I dont believe there is any Rabbi in town that doesn’t support them, I heard in the past that all their shailos go to Rabbi Simcha Bunim Cohen. So, I think its safe to say that you can send in your application without worrying….

  5. PrettyBoyFloyd- instead of all your negative comments u always post, why not do something in this town. Now that i got my clarification, i will apply. But pls post your address, that i can know to skip your block on my watch.

  6. Lcsw has no budget?
Radios are 500 per plus jackets vests (for saftey)
The sad part is in a town of 100k people they only have 24 members.
it comes down to that everybody wants to complain and scream but not lift a finger to help How pathetic

  7. Good for them! I think the biggest proof that they are doing things is that we DON’T hear about new crime on a minute-to-minute basis like we used to. There obviously is more of a presence in this town and hopefully the criminals are realizing htat it isn’t as easy as it used to be! Last question: are there patrols on Shabbos? Are there patrols everywhere?

  8. do you realize the LCSW also stands for Licensed Clinical Social Worker? I propose calling the really higher ups in the organization PHD’s or Police Handling Department.

  9. do you realize the LCSW also stands for Licensed Clinical Social Worker? I propose calling the really higher ups in the organization PHD’s or Police Handling Division.

  10. The patrols cover just about all of Lakewood and there are some non jewish members who patrol on Saturday. They are a great organization and if you don’t hear anything of them its usually because they are doing their job right and keeping criminals away. Call PD then call LCSW they usually have a faster response as they have members out patrolling. Keep up the great work, a huge fan.

  11. Don’t give me no garbage about lcsw having a quicker response time than the police!! Baloney! They’re great and that is the truth but don’t overdo it.

  12. not faulting the cops, they are stretched too far, but the response time is a real problem for the regular folks calling 911… Wish I knew about these guys earlier.

  13. It is impossible to actually know the lcsw response time because you dont see the first few units that responded because the lcsw sends members to the area of the call right away who look the area over then they send a member to talk to the caller for more details so they are there before you see i them
