Police Chief: Resident Who Detained Burglary Suspects Did Super Job; Helped Solve Multiple Other Burglaries

Police Chief Rob Lawson today highly praised the resident who detained a burglar and his accomplice in middle of the night, allowing police officers to make the arrests and solve other burglaries in the process.

“He did a super job”, Chief Lawson tells TLS, “It worked out extremely well – not only in detaining the suspects, but the grabbing the keys from the ignition,” the Chief says, which allowed the police to arrest the pair before they fled the scene.

“I personally called to thank him for his actions, and enabling us to solve other burglaries,” the Chief said.

However, the Chief added that although the victim did a great job, he would not encourage these type of actions for the general public because of the possibility of a suspect carrying a weapon.

The suspect, 26 year old Pablo Louis Riverra Jr. of East Kennedy Boulevard, admitted to multiple other recent burglaries. The accomplice arrested, a woman, may possibly be a relative, the Chief says.

One of burglary victims who had his GPS and camera stolen from his truck during the night last night tells TLS his items were returned to him by Lakewood Detectives following the suspect’s arrest. However, the victim also had a bag containing approximately $800 worth of tools stolen, which has not yet been located. (The victim asks that anyone who may find the black bag of tools, please contact TLS).

  1. Yes. A person who witnesses a felony can use non-deadly force to detain the felon. Taking his keys is certainly better than using physical force that causes harm, which is also permitted.

  2. what silly questions. doesn’t anybody deserve some kind of privacy. who cares who it was, why he was going to airport at that hour, etc.? really, in the scheme of life, is it really important information that the public needs to know? ridiculous!

  3. It is good when citizens look out for themselves, take appropriate actions against those that would rob or plunder, and notify police of the violation.

This individual performed heroically, and I am happy to see that LPD Chief Rob Lawson called to congratulate him.

Criminals need to know that they risk encountering a member of the public that will take such an action. Congratulations citizen, for a job well done.

  4. will you people who have absolutely NO idea what exactly happened – stop making all these assumptions? N0 – SHE did not just stand by while her car keys were taken…if you don’t know the whole story – please stop passing judgements….you have no idea if it was or wasn’t a dangerous situation, or how it occured either….

  5. I consider myself a proud and old friend of Lakewood’s newest Hero!

I also congratulate him for exercising remarkable restraint and taking the least restrictive measures in detaining the two criminals – especially given the shock of literally just being robbed in front of his eyes.

My only fear at this point is of the Justice system failing to properly carry out the process to protect our citizenry, as they have unfortunately proven too many times in the past.

My math teacher taught me in early grade school that 1+ 0 = 0. The same rule applies to stopping crime; Hero citizens or great law enforcers + a failing justice system = zero.
