Following the Master Plan public hearing this evening, the Planning Board voted to set a date for the final documents, and to vote on it.

Officials say by October 3rd the final Master Plan will be complete, and a vote will be held the same day.

The Master Plan is intended to set the rules for  smarter growth within the Township for the next 10 years.

  1. Smarter growth? How about no more growth?! Are the officials seeing what’s going on in town the last few days with traffic now that summer is over? Our kids buses cannot complete their routes in time and there’s delays in getting the kids home every single day? Do our officials even care? Are they completely controlled by the developers?

    • Yes – Now that school has started it takes forever to get anywhere in Lakewood. I’m petrified to think about what it will be like if this gets approved and thousands of new houses are built.

  2. Smart growth?

Should be called smart planning. By putting growth and smart together, sounds like some hoax.

How about stricter zoning laws? Why when they build on rt 88 arent there rules requiring builders/developers to widen or not build near the road. Should the township decide to widen the road it would be allot easier. I nearly drove into the new home on rt 88 and railroad. It’s out of hand. Stop with the duplexes etc… have smart zoning laws.

Do the ones in charge ever drive in rush hour down the 9. Let them drive it every day. I doubt they’d vote for growth…

  3. Everything is done backwards on this board, they keep on approving houses right up to the road making it impossible to ever add turning Lanes or make two lanes or even making a shoulder and they are still busy blaming the state about route 9 while they are creating the same problem with every other Street in Lakewood, here are just a few examples, cross street has new townhouses right up to the road, this new ridiculous development on Vine Street has houses right up to the road, Route 88 has houses right up to the road there’s no shoulder and no room for turning lanes. Aside from the traffic this does not allow emergency vehicles to get through.

    This madness has to stop.

  4. I’m all of22 years old and the town has for sure doubled in size since I was a kid there’s a simple solution to this whole mess no more building bec our infrastructure can’t hold it I’m sorry if you want to move to Lakewood but there is no more room ( I hope not to sound like an anti Semite )

  5. I understand builders and developers want, and need to make money just like everyone else. However, one can’t open a business when it negatively impacts, and is detrimental to others. Yes we need somewhere to live, but Lakewood is way way over developed. There are neighboring towns that people can, and have to move to. Lakewood CANNOT sustain anymore more growth. There is no need for more houses, there is no need for more schools, there is no need for more Shuls. There is no roads for people to drive on anymore. Why aren’t more people in outrage over this, and why don’t more people voice their disgust?
