PHOTOS: Traffic Circle on Oak Street Replaced by 4-Way Stop

PHOTOS: The roundabout circle installed at Oak Street and Albert Avenue in 2010, has become ineffective today with the placement of 4-way stop signs.

The cause of multiple accidents at the intersection – followed by complaints by neighbors – prompted the Township Committee’s action.

The circle was placed at the intersection after Oak Street was opened to allow for motorists to travel from New Hampshire Avenue to River Avenue, with only one stop sign in between – at Vine Street.

Mayor Albert Akerman and Committeeman Menashe Miller visited the intersection last month, ahead of the Town’s adjustment to the plan.

The circle is expected to be removed in the near future. TLS-SG.

So sad that noone in this town knows how to use traffic circles. Or actually to follow traffic rules. So now those who didn’t know how to use the traffic circle will run thru the stop signs instead.

Yes the circle will cost too much to remove. Does anyone know why they wasted 100K to conduct a survey, then go against its findings. Seems like they should let the experts make the decisions and not themselves all the time. Fork it over tax payers.

I don’t understand so when is a circle good to have?! they have them all over the world, but they dont work here?? something obviously wasn’t made right is the center to small, lane to narrow? is the telepone pole obstructing peoples view!?? I don’t believe that lakewood is the only town in the world that figured out that it causes accidents!!

Need to remove circle. Got lost, was unfamiliar with the street, it was dark and rainy, stop sign was hiding, went through and got a flat tire.
