PHOTOS: A suspicious bottle with a cloth sticking out of it prompted a large response from emergency officials during Yom Tov, neighbors tell TLS.
A passerby alerted authroities when he spotted the suspicious looking bottle leaning against a telephone pole on Caranetta Drive. The item also had a lighter near it, according to a neighbor.
Police, Lakewood EMS and the Lakewood Fire Department initially responded, but after the item was inspected by the Lakewood Fire Department, the County K-9 as well as Berkeley’s HAZ-MAT team were called in to investigate.
The closed road was re-opened after the items was collected. It’s unknown what the item was, but neighbors say it appeared to be a Molotov Cocktail. TLS.
it was a bottle of water !!! it was filled with water , people if we keep crying wolf what is going to happen when we really need help ? we keep calling for help over every little thing that happens people are going to stop coming. lets not let that happen please. for lakewoods sake
Todays conventional wisdom would say the opposite. If u see something, say something. The bad guys need to be right just once. This was not even called in by a member of the Jewish community. Remember it was Yom tov. Better be safe than sorry. There are lots if nutty bad guys out there. I am willing to bet that 75-80 percent of the calls responded to by your fire department could be put out with a water gun. Yet you send out heavy duty trucks and equipment. Each time.It is just the right way to do things.
it was a bottle with a wick in it with a lighter near it. Of course you should call it in. #1, how do you know it is just water? You can’t look at something with a liquid in it and assume because the liquid is clear that it is water and not a hazard. Gas is clear, acid is clear, lots of hazardous liquids are clear. So too are alot of gasses that are dangerous and they don’t have an odor. They did the right thing. The world is different today.
i know for a fact it was water , yes it was made to look like it was molotov coctail but they are not dangerous unless you light them ! anyone could have picked it up and smelled to see it was water ! i am telling you if we keep calling in all the troops for no reason we are in big trouble if somthing serious does happen. you cannot deny we are getting crazy in this town!!!!
Please if you are claiming to be a Lakewood firefighter why would you make such an ignorant comment. If that’s how you feel keep your comments to yourself. Bottom line is if you didn’t put it there DON’T PICK IT UP. There are plenty of hazardous liquids that look like water. Bottom line is nobody is going to stop responding for suspicious packages. Not quite sure where you heard that.
How much does Berkley charge for responding? Was just reminiscing of when Lakewood had its own Hazmat team.
i dont know why they would not post my comment buy i do know for a fact that the fluid was water !
Maybe “Lakewood firefighter” has something to hide
Maybe he put the water there…
#6 it’s free and Berkeley hazmat is currently the official responce unit for the entire county. No town in Ocean County have their own hazmat team.
Lakewood firefighter y r u so serious about all this when no one accused u of being wrong or saying it wasn’t water and maybe ur one of the nutty bad guys
to lakewood frefighter, maybe you know for a fact that it was water after the fact. But if you are that good at determining what is in a container, why don’t you just take a swig of it after you smell it to confirm that it is just water. Go back to school and read the Merck Index.
Lakewood Frefighter, Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt
I doubt you have permission to be the PIO for the department. Seem as if you fell asleep during some of your most important trainning. Basic Hazmat Awarness , ring a bell?
lol wow , angry people , well first off i am not speaking for the deparment , i speak only for my self. i know it was water becasuse i am friends with people on berk hazmat . sorry i didnt respond lastnight i have a family to take care of. look i was not trying to upset anyone. my point in we are calling in out of town resources way to often! ie Nj state police ,oc sheriff , berkley hatmaz. at a certain point they are not going to rush to lakewood for a call. and i pray that is not the day we really need them. you can say that will never happen but hey where do u think the story the boy who cried wolf came from ? it happens
“lakewood frefighter” is not a real firefighter. If so, he would not be saying such nonsence because his training would have taught him better. If you want to be a “frefighter” so bad, go sign up and stop impersonating one on this blog
hahaha i have beena firefighter in this town for more then 15 years . but thats fine you keep thinking what you want !!!
