IMG_0992A Hachnosas Sefer Torah on Sunday marked the opening and Chanukas Habayis of the Sephardic Congregation of Lakewood, Kahal Ohel Shulamit.

The Sefer Torah was completed at the Haber residence on Ponderosa Drive, and was then brought with a procession to the new Shul, located on Spruce Street.

The Sefer Torah and building were dedicated by renown Baalei Tzedaka Mr. and Mrs. Ray and Sharon Haber, in memory of Mrs. Shari Haber A”H.

The event was attended by many from the Lakewood Sephardic community, as well as by Rabbonim and donors.

“Kahal Ohel Shulamit” Not to be stereotypical or anything, but never seen a shul congregation dedicated with a woman’s name.

Shuls named after women are common in israel and were very common in rastern europe for hundreds of years.

If the family of Shulamit chose to honor her by naming a Shul, then there is no place for any mean spirited comments regarding naming shuls for men or women. First clarify the issue, before commenting publically and hurting the sensitivities of clearly kind and generous people. By the way, the last name “Eidles and “Soras” came about in honor of the Mothers-in-law of Choshuve Sons-in-laws who supported them financially ans facilitated their learning.
