The Lakewood Police Department today rolled out their latest vehicle – a State-funded vehicle that’s only vaguely marked, and designed to deter crime.
LPD Captain Greg Meyer tells TLS the vehicle, a 2016 Ford Explorer, was funded by the State as part of a DWI Patrol grant.
The vehicle, which has only white reflective markings, will be used primarily for DWI patrol and for operations that police wish to remain undetected – such as staking out neighborhoods etc.
“The vehicle blends in,” says Captain Meyer. Unless lights are shined directly on the side wording at night, you won’t immediately be able to tell it’s an official police car – until the lights go on.
When the vehicle isn’t used for special operations, it will second as a patrol car, Meyer says.
The vehicle was outfitted by Nathan Hershkowitz of Elite Emergency Lighting, based in Lakewood.

what is the law in NJ in regard to unmarked police cars as a while back i was told that you dont need to pull over for an unmarked car on the highway , is this true and if yes does it apply to the township proper ?
Until they start using it for all small traffic ofences
Car looks great! Well done Capt Meyer and Elite!
Even the police cars say on the license plate BMG 😉
its actually an ‘8’ not a ‘B’
U not very smart if u can’t tell that a cop car
If they wish to remain unmarked leave it empty what’s this vaguely marked?
This is not going to be such a big secret weapon anymore, is it now?
Thanks for letting us know what licence plate to look out for!
Looks cool. Just, if they really want to “blend in” they should get a minivan….
To #1 who is clearly concerned:
Oh, don’t worry so much. As long as you are a law abiding citizen who drives carefully and follows the speed limit – like most of Lakewood, of course – you will be safe!
Game On!!
He means it blends in well with the other police cars! 🙂
People will confuse this vehicle to be a hatzolah member and won’t pull over, happens everyday here.
@my two cents: I agree if they really wanna blend in, use a mini van.
@#1
Not sure if police pulling you over, drive to nearest police station/fire house, or very public area.
This ia a no Brainer
As it has municipal plates..
