Members of the New Jersey Task Force One (NJ-TF1) returned to the scene of the tragic accident to mark the one year anniversary and to remember the 98 lives lost in the building collapse on June 24, 2021.
Following the accident, 80 members of the state’s highly trained force spent 14 days working in the dangerous pile of rubble alongside the partially collapsed building, working on treacherous debris piles in the oppressive heat and through the torrential rain and wind from Tropical Storm Elsa.
“We are honored by the Surfside Community for allowing us to be there for you in your time of need and inviting us to be a part of this special memorial service. Our lives are forever touched by this tragedy, and we will keep those 98 precious souls in our thoughts and prayers,” they said in a statement.
