PHOTOS: Milestone Achieved as Tomchei Shabbos Card Program Reaches $1Million Mark

tsPHOTOS: The Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood Card Program recently marked a tremendous milestone by reaching $1 million in donations to Tomchei Shabbos through the program.

“The innovation program, which began in 2004, offers shoppers at local groceries the chance to easily donate to Tomchei Shabbos while paying for their groceries by placing $1, $3 and $5 donation cards right next to the register,” says Tomchei Shabbos. “Shoppers need only ask the cashier to swipe the card and the donation amount is added to their own bill. Shoppers have been appreciative of this opportunity to help others in need obtain food necessities through Tomchei Shabbos while doing their own food shopping.”

Now, as the program nears the ten year mark, the sum total has hit $1million, proving that even small donations can add up to significant sums for tzedaka.

In recognition of the stores and to acknowledge their partnership and dedication with Tomchei Shabbos, Tomchei Shabbos has been presenting Thank You plaques to every participating store.

“In addition to being a source of pride for the stores, the plaques serve as a reminder and a chizuk for the shoppers,” the organization said. “They remind us that every bit counts. Every dollar, three dollars or five dollar donation is meaningful. And that’s something every Lakewooder can be proud of.”
