PHOTOS: Man steals vehicle left running in Lakewood, found unconscious after getting into accident

A man stole a vehicle and then got into an accident in Lakewood this morning, police confirmed to TLS.

Shortly before 9 AM, Hatzolah and Police responded to the intersection of Monmouth Avenue and 7th Street for the reports of a single-vehicle accident with the driver unconscious in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Hatzolah members busted open the window to gain entry into the vehicle and treated the man before transporting him with paramedics to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus.

It turns out the vehicle was left running around the corner, and the man jumped in and drove off, police told TLS. The owner had reportedly left it running to warm up.

The suspect – who had regained consciousness – is in custody at the hospital, an official said.

“It smelled like he was drinking,” a person on scene who wished to remain anonymous told TLS.

Police could not confirm if he was drinking or under the influence of drugs, pending blood results.

  1. I met the owner of the vehicle shortly after it was stolen. He is a yungerman. He maintained his equilibrium was cool calm and collected. He stated ” Better on eitzim (trees) vavanim(stones)” I’m elated to be a part of a large group of individuals who see everything as the Yad (hand)of Hashem (G-D). Mi Kamecha Yisroel!

  2. In this weather some people like to warm up their cars. Don’t fault the driver. But it’s better to lock your car and open it with a spare key if you’re in a neighborhood where someone may just take the opportunity to drive away.

  3. What about starting a gofundme page to help the owner of the car recover from his loss? If everyone would give a dollar it would probably raise enough money.
