Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billheimer, Ocean County Undersheriff Nils Bergquist, Jr., Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer, and leading members of the Prosecutor’s Homeland Security team met with Askonim today to discuss pressing concerns related to Anti-Semitic bias incidents and hate speech in Ocean County.
The message from the meeting was straighforward: We are all partners in the effort to combat Anti-Semitism.
”“It was a very successful meeting with our law enforcement partners and community leaders,” said Chief Meyer. “We will continue to closely monitor and investigate these events in Lakewood and around the county. Bias incidents will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There is no room in Lakewood or America for that matter for any form of anti-semitism.”
There is something you can do – it’s simple, but crucial.
If you experience any hate or bias incident, no matter how small, call the police and file a report right away. With this information, law enforcement will take the necessary steps.

We should have called police a year ago when a large white guy in Wal-Mart started ranting at us (3 girls n husband as we bought school supplies)that hitler shud have finished his job, that we along with the rest of lkwd should be in jail for fraud …etc. Atleast the manager of the store told him off after some hashgacha… Crazy the times we live in!

I was recently in the dollar tree in brick (near route 70) when the older woman behind the cashier was nasty to me. First she yelled at my kid get your hands off when he was standing near me and helping me put the items on the conveyor belt. (He was well behaved and was doing nothing wrong.) Then she ignored me when I said hi how are you, and again when I said thank you, when she was done scanning my purchases. I said thank you again not sure if she was ignoring me, so then she mumbled something under her breath nastily. I wanted to see if I was imagining this. I’m a nice, friendly person to EVERYONE and was never treated this way. I waited to see if she would treat the next person on line who was not Jewish, the same way, but she didn’t. She was nice and courteous to them and even let them go with a joke. She looked up and made eye contact with me as I left the store and she glared at me.
