A crowd of Lakewood business owners gathered last night in the community hall of The Strand for a very informative Cyber Security workshop hosted by the LCSC and LDC.David Klein, the Executive Director of the LDC, began the program by highlighting the economic development programs available through the LDC /UEZ.
In opening remarks, Rabbi Moshe Z. Weisberg emphasized the ongoing theme of these events by relating that just as Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses) cared for all by physically helping slaves in the mortar pits (see Rashi and Midrash); similarly it’s our moral obligation to assist others who are struggling.
The program continued with detailed and very informative presentation on Security Awareness Training by Mordy Fried CISSP, GCIH. Mr. Fried, the President of Keystone Cyber Protection has successfully worked with hundreds of businesses to secure and maintain their IT environments. His rich training included information on: How to secure Wi-Fi, phishing protections, proper password management, safe browsing, dangers of social networking, protecting from wire transfer fraud, how to work remotely, mobile device security, and more. The engaging and dynamic presentation left participants wanting for more. A comprehensive handout was provided to all attendees.
The LCSC thanks the Lakewood Development Corporation for their continual support and funding of the Business Links series of Networking Events.
Alex (Shea) Lowinger, Director of LCSC Small Business Services, facilitated the business networking segment of the evening. Each business owner was encouraged to introduce themselves and describe what they do and what services they offer. Business owners passed out business cards, learnt about each other, shared information and saved contact information. Alex also introduced a new initiative, the Lakewood Business Incubator to help develop new businesses and increase their chance for success.
Other business services offered by the LCSC include assistance with applying for UEZ Microloans. These loans are designed for small business growth and can be granted to businesses seeking to establish, expand, or redevelop their companies.
