PHOTOS: Lakewood School Severely Damaged in Fire

Early this morning, the Lakewood Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 420 Cross St for a reported fire in a school.

Police reported a well-involved school and a General alarm was transmitted.

Firefighters arrived to find a 1 story wood frame school with heavy fire venting from the rear of the structure.

“This stubborn fire ultimately required multiple mutual aid companies from Brick Jackson Point Pleasent Boro and Beach,” the LFD said. “Excellent work by all responding companies to bring this stubborn fire under control in about 2 hours.”

Units remained on scene till about 5am.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause and origin.
