PHOTOS: Lakewood Police Officer hospitalized following accident

A Lakewood Police Officer and another driver were hospitalized after an accident in Lakewood this afternoon.

The officer was responding to an accident and heading South on New Hampshire Avenue when a driver – reportedly unlicensed – pulled out of the MUA lot – making a left turn, police tell TLS. The officer struck the vehicle on its driver’s side.

Both the officer and other driver were hospitalized.

“He’s got some bumps and bruises, other than that he’s okay,” Police Chief Greg Meyer said of the officer. The other driver’s injuries were also not serious.

Lakewood’s Traffic Safety division and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the accident.

The Northbound lanes of New Hampshire Avenue are shut from Cedarbridge Avenue for the investigation.

  1. another case of an unlicensed/uninsured driver….. now the township/taxes will have to pay for the repairs.
time to start cracking down and ticketing/impounding these vehicles.
its a no brainer, start pulling over out of state plates…..
speedy recovery to the officer involved.

  2. @gregg: It says ” reportedly unlicensed “, where do you get “out of state”. I don’t see a plate on the car. That’s another violation, but where do you get “uninsured”. You have a point but I don’t see it applicable to this incident so far.

  3. I agree with Gregg!
He didn’t say this was an out of state plate, he said that would be a smart way of targeting unlicensed drivers. I personally was involved in an accident with an out of state vehicle and had to pay for repairs myself due to the other driver being unlicensed and not properly insured. It’s illegal and should be enforced. 1) it’s illegal to live in NJ and drive a vehicle registered out of state. 2) it’s illegal to drive without a license.

Why are these laws not being enforced?

    • Gregg I also agree with you. There are thousands of out of state plates in Lakewood. Lets just do a traffic stop. Check the driver and check for insurance. Why do we have to carry it if they can just bolt a plate on the car and drive! Let’s go President Trump round these boys up. Send them home! Do we have a country or don’t we?

  4. You can call it racial profiling or just common sense. 99% of unlicensed drivers in lakewood are immigrants driving out of state vehicles.

LPD- crack down on this please.

  5. Sounds like most of you haven’t heard of the Constitution and the rights that anyone in the United States has. And you really want the Police to focus on just unlicensed drivers when there are so many other issues in a town with 100,000 plus residents.

  6. jack adams you can go home Now your not Native American.your a white man from another country to, yes your blood counts so sit down and be quiet!!!! Anyone can have pennsylvania plates, not just mexicans and other hispanics so what. Ive seen many jewish visitting their families here from out of state so. It was an accident, everyones okay noone died. Be safe everyone!
