PHOTOS: Lakewood Police Host “Cops and Bobbers” Fishing Event for Local Children

The Lakewood Police Department today hosted its second “Cops and Bobbers” event at Lake Carasaljo, where about 20 children had the opportunity to learn the basics of fishing alongside local officers.

The program, designed to build relationships between officers and the community, follows the success of the department’s first event held earlier this year for children in Lakewood’s Hispanic community.

Officers Bell, Conrad, Rose, Emmons, Yahr, and Shimonovich were on hand to guide the children through the experience, offering tips, encouragement, and plenty of smiles.

Police officials say they plan to continue holding more “Cops and Bobbers” events in the future, bringing together children and officers in a fun, educational, and relaxed setting.

We were at the lake renting boats and it looked like you needed an invite to go join. I heard from a Chaveirim member that his family was invited. Maybe it was for all community members like Chaveirim..?

I think it was announced on the PDs website and you had to fill out an application by a deadline. Obviously they had to cut it off somewhere, the lake is only so big and there are only so much fish to go around.
