PHOTOS: Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer presents Israeli fire victim with goodbye gifts

Before heading back to Israel, Israeli fire victim Lazer G., with the assistance of Bikur Cholim, made a stop at the Lakewood Police Headquarters to say goodbye to Police Chief Greg Meyer.

The young boy suffered serious injuries in a fire, requiring the amputation of his legs and hand.

When he first arrived in the States for treatment in 2017, Lazer’s wish was granted when he was welcomed warmly by the Chief, and received a private tour of the police headquarters. He also received a tour of a Lakewood fire station.

During his stay in Lakewood, Lazer and his family were cared for by volunteers at Bikur Cholim, who were with him every step of his long journey.

He became a popular figure when a special Bar Mitzvah was held for him – known as the Bar Mitzvah of the Century.

Lazer spent the Summer in Camp Simcha, and will soon be heading back home to Israel.

But before his departure, the young boy was welcomed once more by Chief Meyer, who gave the boy a police hat and other souvenirs to take back home.

  1. The saga of Lazer G. Is one that touched the hearts of many and will not soon be forgotten. And the kindness shown to him, by one and all, from within and outside of our community is breathtaking.
From LPD to LFD, from the Yeshiva K’tana staff to Bikur Cholim and Chai Lifeline, from the famous names and organizations to the ones you’ll never hear about; like his classmates the list goes on and on. His journey is tragic yet heroic, sad yet uplifting. And although its possible no one knows all the names of ppl that helped but G-d keeps a ledger and not one name, not one deed is forgotten.

  2. @wow – you’re 100% right. I remeber watching clips of the Bar Mitzva of the century & I was floored by the sheer amount of people were involved in making that 1 party.

Also, R’ Kaszierer, in the background in the picture posted here, was involved non-stop with this boy since he came to Lakewood around 3 years ago.

What happened to this boy is such a devastating tragedy, I hope the love and care he got here will help him, somewhat, in his journey ahead.
