PHOTOS: Lakewood Officials Join Sen. Singer as He Activates New Traffic Signal at Route 9 and Oak Street

The long-awaited traffic signal at the intersection of Oak Street and Route 9 (River Avenue) in Lakewood was officially activated today, with State Senator Bob Singer personally turning on the new lights during the ceremony.

Senator Singer was joined by Assemblyman Avi Schnall, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, Police Chief Greg Meyer, members of the Lakewood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit, and other officials as the long-anticipated project finally went live.

“We have long awaited the State’s installation of this traffic signal at River Avenue and Oak Street, and we are confident it will greatly enhance safety for our residents and motorists traveling through the area,” Chief Meyer said.

The new signal is expected to ease congestion and improve safety at one of Lakewood’s busiest and most challenging intersections.

Now if they can only install another 200 or so traffic lights around town and quickly, maybe there will be some improvement in Lakewood. How about on Oak where there are halls and traffic backs up every night. People driving like maniachs to get in and out. While others walk, run and ride e-bikes like animals as well.
