On Labor Day, Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles took a ride on the Lakewood Shuttle to get a first hand look at the program, and to see how to make improvements to it.
“It was amazing to see the large crowd of folks on the bus, on a holiday before school started!” said Mayor Coles. “It drives home the impact that the shuttle has had on so many people. Whether shopping, visiting friends, or going to a doctor’s appointment, the shuttle gets you there on time and in comfort.”
The Mayor took the ride with Askan R’ Lipa Klein, who serves as the liaison to the Lakewood Shuttle program, and who was recently instrumental in bringing a new senior route to Ocean Ride.
“I would like to thank Lipa Klein for the amazing job he has done organizing routes, answering countless phone calls and being a great partner for Lakewood as we look to expand our public transportation services,” said Coles.
“On behalf of the many shuttle riders, I appreciate Mayor Coles for taking his time to ride the bus with residents to see and listen to their needs, Lipa Klein told TLS.
Coles added, “I was happy to hear that our three new larger busses began assembly this week and look forward to their arrival in town.”
I thought the shuttle does not run on Labor day.
My son takes the shuttle every day, on Labor day I drove him because we were under the impression that shuttle was not running.
Nice to see someone actually on the Bus.
I have NEVER seen a solitary passenger on the bus.
avi is my tuition coming down
Avi when is our tuition going down?
Leave it to the Chasid’s they get it done…while we sit there “klerring” for ten years.
why is there no comprehensive public transportation system in a condensed population of this size?
lack of funds
It’s a shame that other than the chassidishe areas (thanks to their involvement) the buses don’t have a well publicized and reliable schedule nor a useful route. We’ve attempted to use it numerous times yet there were no shows or heavy delays. I wish this would change. In my area (WG) the bus runs empty. The mesivta boys and Kollel men resort to hitching and teenagers resort to being driven by parents.
I really wish either the Lakewood Shuttle or the new Senior ride would include a route to A Country Place. The majority of the senior population there do not drive yet there is still no public transportation option for them. Even adding a very easy nearby stop on S. Lake and Hope Chapel to the current Lakewood Shuttle ride would be a tremendous help.
Did you ever try flagging down the West Gate Shuttle on S. Lake and Hope?
if the litvisher oilom would start getting involved and stop relying on the so called VAAD we would also get some improvements
bh! im so happy for the chasidisha oilom that they have free car services
all these funds should be allocated to ad lanes and wider intersections for additional turning lanes, something the tzibor would all benefit from
@maisha, seems like the tzibur hasn’t advocated as much as the chassidishe tzibur has… and probably never will…
is all boils down to the fact the bnei torah have no advocacy in town for our needs whats so ever, took me 45 minutes to get from toras aron to BMG last week, and now i heard they just approved another development on the corner of cross and James, a real shanda!!
meeting the mayor on the trolley reminds me of when zaidy was young. im thinking about inviting him to my bar mitzvah.
Did he help any boys get to Yeshiva?
