Misameach today celebrated the grand opening of their stunning new Music Room with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles took a tour of the entire beautiful 3700 square foot Family Center, including the Game Room, Lounge, Toy Room and Craft Area, before presenting this latest amazing addition.
The new Music Room will give children and their siblings who face the daily stress of serious illness or disabilities a fun and therapeutic outlet for creative expression through music and song. They will be able to play and experiment with the professional quality musical instruments – such as drums, guitars, flutes a keyboard and more – and record their own original compositions to take home with them in the soundproofed recording studio.
In addition, an exciting new OptiBeam Musical Interactive Lighting System will be coming to the Family Center soon. This revolutionary technology from the UK enables individuals who are wheelchair-bound with limited mobility to create music in a magical, fun and engaging way.
“Misameach is thrilled to bring this and other wheelchair adaptive games, arcades and features to the Center, giving children of all different needs and ability levels a way to be included in the fun,” the organization said.
The goal of the Misameach Family Center is to contribute to the healing process through fun, play, exploration and creativity, while also providing some much-needed respite for parents and caregivers.
The Center is open daily for more than 160 hours a month to accommodate and allow for convenient access according to each family’s and individual’s schedule, and is staffed by amazing, experienced and dedicated volunteers from the community. The astounding variety of exciting activities they have available has the children and their family members coming back to the Center again and again. This one-of-a-kind Center provides these families with a unique opportunity to spend enjoyable time together that is fun, relaxed, convenient and free of charge.
“Misameach would like to thank all the individuals and volunteers who gave their time, efforts, guidance and support to help make this Music Room a reality.”

I’m running out of adjectives to describe Misameach and its’ indefatigable founder and coordinator, R’Lipa Schwartz. What this organization does, WITHOUT A STAFF, is beyond amazing, fantastic, breathtaking, mindblowing and sublime. Its double mindblowing: First – how much they help the families of the sick; Second – How he gets the funding for this with no dinner, parlor meeting, raffles etc etc. He does a matching funds thing once a year and THATS IT !! Lipa, what can I say ? Its pretty clear H-shem is running this institution. And if u need me to volunteer once in a while in the music room, I’m available. You know where to find me.
The previous poster is 100% right. I volunteer occasionally for Misameach and the sheer amount of calls they do each week is astounding. And they do much more the week of Chanukah and Purim.
Plus this Family Center.
Plus the mid-winter party.
Plus the cruise.
Its takeh incredible.
Chazak V’Ematz, Lipa, you rock !!
