The Lakewood First Aid extrication team on Tuesday evening held a drill testing out new tools designed to expedite the extrication process on newer vehicles.
With newer vehicles produced with tougher parts, the team tested out a variety of new tools they hope to acquire which could efficiently and quickly cut through, something that would take longer with the older equipment. And with every minute counting, the team wants to be sure they can reach the patient and provide the critical care as quickly as possible.
The Lakewood First Aid Squad consists of approximately 40 volunteers, and responds to about 1,000 annually, including many extrication calls.
