The Lakewood Fire Department continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its firefighters by utilizing its established fire rehab unit, which is operated through a joint services agreement between the Lakewood Fire Department and Lakewood EMS. To aid in this process, the Lakewood Fire Foundation recently purchased state-of-the-art vital sign monitors for use in the rehab unit.
These new devices will allow Lakewood EMS personnel to quickly and accurately assess the vital signs of the firefighters such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation during and after emergency scenes. This can help prevent heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses and ensure firefighters are fit for duty before returning to the emergency.
“The Lakewood Fire Department would like to thank Lakewood EMS for its ongoing support and dedication,” the Fire Foundation said, “We would also like to thank the Lakewood community for its generous donations. The Fire Foundation’s purchasing of devices using these donations has helped the department greatly. The Lakewood Fire Department is now better equipped to protect and serve the community.”
