As reported on TLS Status earlier this week, the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners, together with Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr, proudly announced the appointment of John P. Plevritis Jr. as a full-time career firefighter with the Lakewood Fire Department.
Firefighter Plevritis was officially sworn in during a public meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners on July 14, 2025. He joins the department already certified as a firefighter and will now begin additional training tailored to the Lakewood Fire Department’s specific procedures and operational protocols.
Once his departmental training is completed, Plevritis will be assigned to one of Lakewood’s firehouses in the coming weeks.
The Board of Fire Commissioners and Chief Yahr continue to encourage community members to consider serving their community by becoming volunteer firefighters. Interested individuals can learn more and apply through the department’s website at www.lakewoodfd.org or by visiting the direct application link at lakewoodfd.org/join.

Congratulations John! Wow what a milestone for the Lakewood FD! Almost 50 career members, just 1 more to go (I think). The LFD wrote in July of 2023 expansion plans to get over the next 2 years 20 new members, and they’re almost there! Thank you to the Lakewood Fire Department for constantly ensuring our safety 24/7!!
