A cold Sunday afternoon yesterday was considerably warmed and brightened in one small corner of Aberdeen Township.
Young Israel of Aberdeen – Congregation Bet Tefilah welcomed a new Torah scroll donated by Congregant Eric Nelson in memory of his father.
With enthusiastic support from the young men of Yeshiva Gedolah of Cliffwood, the synagogue’s members and guests escorted the Torah up the synagogue’s drive to live music and boundlessly energetic dancing until the new scroll was taken inside. There it was honored with moving addresses by Mr. Nelson, Young Israel’s Rabbi Yaakov Tesser and Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shimon Alster and feted with a sumptuous meal organized by the synagogue’s Sisterhood.
This celebration was just one of a number that have been spearheaded by Rabbi Tesser, the dynamic young Rabbi, who only recently arrived at this small but growing community in Aberdeen, New Jersey.
Also the home of the inspirational Sunday “Breakfast and Learn” series and the source of the popular Twitter feed “Halacha of the Day,” Young Israel of Aberdeen – Congregation Bet Tefilah is centrally located on Lloyd Road in Aberdeen, where it also serves the surrounding picturesque communities of Matawan and Keyport and the larger communities of Hazlet, Holmdel and Marlboro.

R’ Yakov is amazing !! a product of such wonderful parents Shaya and Leah .We are proud of you
This was a tremendously moving and spiritual function for the Young Israel of Aberdeen. Approximately 150 people, all friends and members, of the Shul, were singing and dancing at this wonderful event. Thank you to Barry Polyak for the photos, Sue Kleinberg for the writeup, Eleanor and Emily Edelstein and the Sisterhood for the beautiful reception, Meir Tesser for his contacts with TLS to get it online so quickly, Rabbi Alster for his meaningful drasha. Rabbi Yaakov Tesser for his total dedication, inspiration, and tireless efforts for the Shul, and most importantly Eric Nelson for the Sefer Torah dedicated to his father and entire family. This truly was something to behold. I know I’ll never forget it.
What is the Twitter handle (name) of the Young Israel of Aberdeen?

Wow what a simcha. The Young Israel of Aberdeen is such a nice place. Located in a beautiful community. The members are so warm and inviting. The Rabbi is a dedicated Rov who is not only a great speaker, but caring, and pratical. Together with his Rebbitzen and a shul board they are building a place that will provide all the practical needs of a growing orthodox community. From innovative programs to inspire you, to enjoyable events to celebrate holidays. A family looking for a place to move should strongly consider this duamond in the ruff.
