A single helium balloon was to blame for knocking out power to some Lakewood residents last night, a JCP&L repairman said.
The birthday balloon rose up to the high voltage line supplying power to an area of Ridge Avenue last night, causing a short-circuit, and ultimately a power outage, according to the repairman.
The repairman explained that the balloons are generally made of foil, which conducts electricity. The power surge prompts a short-circuit.
Power was out for about an hour until the crew arrived, area residents told TLS.
